Local SEO Check 1 – Local Business Listing Set-Up
Set up your Local Business Profiles. The three main search engine business profiles are listed below.
Google My Business – Setup and verify your business with Google.
Bing Local – Get your Business listed on the Bing Search Engine.
Yahoo Local – Get your business listed on Yahoo Local listings.
Local SEO Check 2 – Optimize your Business Listings and ensure all of the information is correct.
Business Name – Ensure the correct business name is listed and consistent across all business directories
Map & Address – Ensure your location and address is listed.
Photos & Videos – Upload videos and photos of your business, products etc to get more more exposure to your potential customers.
Contact Info – Ensure all of your contact info is correct and consistent.
Introduction – A quick keyword rich professional introduction to your business, what you do and what you sell.
Category – Ensure your business is listed in all relevant business categories.
Hours of Business – Verify your business hours and keep holiday hours up to date.
Validate & Verify – Verify your account and website on the local business pages.
Local SEO Check 3 – Getting regular business reviewers to build trust
Check Competition – Find where and how your competition are getting reviews. Replicate.
Start with Best Customers – Reach out to your long term returning customers first to get the best reviews.
Start Asking for Reviews – Google Reviews, Yahoo Insights, Bing Reviews, TrustPilot, Yelp etc – Start a review campaign requesting reviews from your customers. A follow up email 2 weeks after a purchase works great.
Local SEO Check 4 – Get Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP) Citations
Start with the Important NAP Sites – Get listed with your local business and commerce chapters. Most towns and counties have Chamber of Commerce and Business Listings.
Add New NAP Citations Every Month – Stay consistent with the NAP additions. Not only do NAPS provide phone referrals but a lot of NAP sites allow backlinks.
Local SEO Check 5 – Listed in Industrial Directories and Niche Forums
Industry Specific Directories – Look for specific forums related to your niche. A lot of forums allow vendors to be listed for a small fee and provide support and expertise within the forum.
Check Competition – Run a backlink check on your competition. A lot of times this is a great resource to find new forums and NAP sites.
Local SEO Check 6 – On Page Services – Page for Each Service Offered
List Every Product / Services you offer – Search engines cant index your services or keywords if they dont exist. Create a compelling informative page for each service or product you offer.
Local SEO Check 7 – Long Form Content Pages
Do you have a blog? – If not. Considering building one and try to add atleast one decently sized article a month. Over time the impressions add up to a lot of traffic and a blog is a great way to get backlinks.
Write keyword rich long form informative articles – Write the occasional long 400+ word informative keyword rich article to get organic traffic and backlinks.
Local SEO Check 8 – On Page Optimization
Identify your Keywords – Every page is unique so every page should have a target keyword. Optimize your content for these keywords.
Unique Metas for Each Page – Look your your target keywords and be sure to include them in your meta tags.
Keyword Rich URL’s for EVERY Product or Services Page – Same goes for the url structure of your pages. Ensure you have a keyword in your url structure.
Keywords in Headings H1,H2,H3 – Same for heading tags. Let search engines know what your target relevant keywords are by having them in your headings.
Keywords to text ratio – Dont spam keywords in your content, metas or headings but include a decent amount (+/- 2 to 3%) while keeping the content organic looking.
Link to other pages from within the text – Linking out to other pages from keywords can add authority and trust to your pages!
Optimize Images with Keywords – Images are a source of traffic as well. Optimize your image names to include your keywords.
Local SEO Check 9 – Backlinking
Backlink Networking – Give Testimonials to Local Suppliers in exchange for a dealer link
Social Links – Link to your website from your social media accounts to give social weight to your pages
Paid Links (Marketing) – You can pay for backlinks from Marketing Directories, Magazines, News publications etc
Local SEO Check 10 – City Pages
City Pages – Long form keyword rich services pages targeting specific cities – One of the best tips. Create services pages that target “your service and city name”. These are great for ranking outside of your local area for organic traffic.
